2004 FACES Recipients

FACESACE is proud to announce the following successful recipients of the 2004 Friends of ACE Support (FACES) Program for projects to be carried out in 2005.

Congratulations to the following organisations.



Australian Deaf Sports Federation Ltd

Name of Project: Creating Deaf Friendly Sporting Clubs’.
Funding: $14,994

Creating Deaf Friendly Sporting Clubs’ involves the development of a training and information kit to support DSA’s Targeted Club Program (TCP).  Resources, including a video and training manual, will be used to increase awareness and educate sporting clubs and organisations about deaf and hard of hearing requirements.  This will result in the increased access of deaf and hard of hearing people to all sporting opportunities.


Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland

Name of Project: Creating Connections
Funding: $8,102

Non-speaking students rarely get the opportunity to express themselves in a public forum.  This project will allow a group of young people who use voice output devices to communicate, to perform a theatre piece at the AGOSCI Conference 2005, in Brisbane.  The performance will showcase their communication competencies acquired as a direct result of their engagement in Complex Communication Projects and the follow on support of family and local communities.

Meniere’s Support Group of Victoria Inc

Name of Project: “Understanding & Managing Meniere’s Disease Awareness Program for WA GPs & the Community ”.
Funding: $7,605

Increase GPs’ awareness of Meniere’s Disease by providing a resource pack of material featuring the book “Understanding Meniere’s Disease”.  Assist GPs support their patients by increasing their knowledge of the organisations available to support people who are deaf or hearing impaired.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association of SA Inc

Name of Project: “Ask the Experts”.
Funding: $2,300

The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) proposes to host an educational conference to inform allied health professionals, patients and carers of the support available throughout the community, to assist with speech and communication difficulties associated with MND.

New South Wales Association of the Deaf Inc

Name of Project: The Linguistics of Auslan Textbook Project 2.
Funding: $12,459

This project will provide financial support to Dr Adam Schembri to concentrate on writing “An introduction to the linguistics of Auslan” book to be published by Cambridge University Press with co-author Associate Professor Trevor Johnston.

Victorian Deaf Society

Name of Project: A Life with No Sauce/Source
Funding: $14,540

This project involves a team of eight key artists (4 performers, 2 musicians a director & designer) and two deafblind consultants working with the deaf and deafblind community to develop multi-sensory theatre.  The eight week process of collaboration and skill sharing will culminate in three showings for critical feedback and the resulting theatre will cross boundaries of presentation and participation.
